For the 38th year the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Explorers Christmas Project will distributed gifts and food to our neediest families. In tough economic times the need is great. This year the community based project distribute gifts to 650+ families, including 1800 children. Each family received gifts, a ham and approximately 40lbs of food. Volunteers also distributed 6,000 poinsettia's to local shut-ins. This is a community based project and all gifts came from donations from the community to local fire departments, toys for tots and gifts collected by 107.9 the Link.
Providence Baptist Church donated all the Ham's, MDI food distributors donated almost all the food and Metrolina Greenhouses donated the poinsettias. Referrals for the families come from firefighters, police officers and the school system.
Delivery Day with be Tuesday 12/20. Sponsorship opportunities and drop off locations can be found at: http://www.1079thelink.com/santaslink/index.aspx
